Shire braced

Shire Pharmaceuticals, Britain’s third-biggest drugs company, is on standby for a bid from Pfizer, the US group that developed Viagra.

Shares in Shire leapt 47p to 990p on Friday, as analysts predicted an offer as high as £13 a share, valuing the company at £8bn.
